Abstract
Purpose: This study was performed to evaluate change of immune system by herbal extracts including
Angelica, Peony, Bupleurum etc on the skin of rats. We want to evaluate the changes of cytokines over
time as compared natural healing of skin tissue with 2-degree burns on the skin of rats treated with
herbal extract several times.

Methods: Four weeks age of rats were divided two groups. Each group was 15 rats. The rats of the
control group were natural healing of 2-degree burns on the skin. And the rats of the treated group
were treated with herbal extracts to 2-degree burns of skin. We evaluated of IL-1¥â, IL-6, TNF-¥á
expression in the blood after 3, 6, 12 days.

Results: In the treated group, IL-1¥â expression was increased and then the burns mended quickly by
inducing rapid inflammatory response. But, expression of IL-6 or TNF-¥á did not changed by herbal
extract treatment.

Conclusion: This result suggests a possibility of healing effect of herbal extract for burning. However,
further investigations are needed to clarify the effect of it through a study with large animal samples
and various kind of immunity indicator.
